It doesn't really matter if you prefer ginger over turmeric or the other way around. It's for the fact that they are both very good at reducing pain and inflammation. Such doesn't really come as a surprise because these two are actually related to one another. Their insides may not look the same color wise, but they belong to the same family.

The truth is there are lots of topically applied creams and ointments for arthritis that have ingredients extracted from ginger and turmeric. In ginger's case, it is called gingerol. Capsaicin is the name of that which is derived from turmeric. Gingerol and capsaicin are basically the same kinds of chemicals, and both of them can provide results. So in other words, it's perfectly fine which of the two you go for.

The good news is there's no need for you to get exhausted looking for creams and gels with gingerol or capsaicin in them. What you may do is simply obtain them straight from ginger and turmeric, their easily accessible sources. You need not worry so much over your inflamed and painful joints if you have any of these cooking spices in the kitchen.

You can brew fresh ginger root into a tea if you want to benefit from its anti inflammatory and analgesic properties. Start by peeling a small piece of ginger and then grating it. Steep a teaspoon of it for 4 to 5 minutes in a cup of hot water. Remove grated ginger root bits afterwards using a teaspoon. It's completely up to you if you want to make it taste better with a teaspoon of fresh lemon juice or honey.

Several times in a day, you may simply suck on a tiny piece of fresh ginger root. Allow your saliva to come into contact with it each time. Following this tip helps ensure that the affected joints are constantly supplied with gingerol, thus eliminating the need for you to heavily rely on OTC painkillers.

Turmeric is commonly sold in powdered form. This only means that it is more convenient to turn into tea than ginger. What you need to do is dissolve a teaspoon of it in a cup of hot water and you may start consuming it. To make it taste better, feel free to add a teaspoon of honey or lemon juice.

It's also possible to turn turmeric into a topical solution for arthritis. Add one drop of water to a small amount of it at a time until you come up with a paste. Massage the paste on the affected joint and leave it there to dry. This home remedy may be performed up to 3 times a day for best results.
