Basic Details Regarding MRI Screening

By Sharon Peterson

MRI or Magnetic Resonance Imaging uses strong radio waves and magnetic field to craft images of internal structures and organs in the body. It could show problems which other imaging methods might not be capable of showing. The tube scanner has a big circular magnet inside it and this where the body is inserted while lying down on a movable bed.

Patients must be checked first and tested before letting them be scanned by the machine as to make sure they are safe. They should undergo MRI screening Los Angeles and pass it as well as removing all objects and devices made from metal that can cause disruption. Here are some things to know about this process being done in Los Angeles, California.

These processes are used for checking any abnormalities the spinal cords, brain ad other body parts have like tumors, cysts and injuries the joints possibly have. Detecting problems with the internal organs like heart and liver is also possible. Problems women have in the pelvic region can also be detected.

Once you are already inside the scanner with earplugs to block out the noise, the doctor will speak to you and make sure you are comfortable and ready. It is essential that you should not move during scanning as it would make the images blurry. You can ask them to stop the procedure if ever you feel uncomfortable inside.

The radiologist then will check these images after the scanning is done in order to determine if they need more or not. If they are satisfactory for him then no further images would be needed and you can go home. The radiologist will make a report then pass in on to the doctor who will set an appointment with you so the results will be discussed.

It usually takes twenty up to sixty minutes to get the pictures needed depending on the body part being scanned and the amount of pictures required. Your fillings and braces is not affected by the machine but it usually makes the images distorted. This would make the process to finish longer due to the distortion.

Because moving is not allowed during the procedure inside the scanner so a short break is sometimes given to you by the doctor during long scanning time. There is no need for claustrophobic patients to worry because they will talk to you while inside making sure you are comfortable during the process. Open MRI scanners are also available in some places for claustrophobic patients.

There are no side effects known to pregnant women and to the child inside them that undergoes the procedure. Undergoing it on her first trimester is not recommended although it can be done if absolutely necessary to get the information needed. It is advisable to do it during the second trimester and third trimester although doing it in the first one have no clinical concerns known.

Those patients who underwent this have not shown any side effects. As long as you remove every metal devices in or on your body to avoid injuries. Contrast material is sometimes injected to get clearer images and sometimes they cause allergies to a patient but it can be treated easily.
