Performing Yagya, A Tradition That Balance Life

By Henry Peterson

Being faithful can be compared to having super powers as it changes the lives of people from being confused in this world to being enlightened. But, it has its limitations that if controlled by anyone it can be a weakness that can be turned against other beliefs and do things that are against its will. Related to this topic are some areas of religion and tradition, due to society being more engaged in this activity more than anything else in the world and often the subject of disputes.

Cultures have been around the world for a very long time, varying from tribes, cultural norms, and tradition that community believe is real. Traditions like yagya, also known yajna is a ritual activity performed by the Vedic yagyas to construct positive effects and negative effects in the various areas of life. The word literally means to sacrifice, have faith, praise, and offer as referred by Hinduism as any offering done using fire joined with mantras.

This is said to be an act of surrendering anything for the purpose of gods. Such act is consists of sacred authority and serves for the salvation of the man. Offerings are not that very important, it might be in a form of cake, pulse, mixed milk, an animal, juice of a plant and more.

Their ritual is believed to help an individual in regards to its wealth, health, evolution, and harmony. Today, there with the massive information on the internet, there sites that offer services that gives this ritual to who is intrigued in trying it. Some say it can future life events of an individual, with this, necessary yagyas are suggested in order to restore or maintain balance in a life of a person.

Similar to the modern religion today, the tradition is also founded on one basic fundamental principle, having faith in gods. The community that adheres to the way of living of culture is appreciative and in harmony with the environment and nature, the reason why some mantras are done in some zones of the forests where these people live. Along with it are stories about legends, myths, and gods are told base on experiences of their people.

The reason why they perform oblations thrown in flames is to present their offerings to the god of fire and messenger of gods, Agni. Offerings are then said to be carried by Agni to the gods, and in exchange, the gods are expected to grant boons and benedictions. Their rituals served as the spiritual exchange between supreme beings and the human beings.

Society today find this kind of belief ancient and a bit odd for it to still exist as a manner of getting answered prayers. But there is not much of a difference to what the modern people do. It might be refreshing to the eyes of somebody, but the main purpose of the activity is the same.

Yet, there are people who do not believe in this kind of beliefs or in any particular religion. They believe the human evolution and the principle of cause and effect that will direct the path of an individual regarding of its actions. Difficult for them to rely on such principles that are uncertain and unproven by science.

Facts are proven by science, while traditions are solely based on having faith, very intriguing how these to contradicting variables coexists with each other both being necessary. Without traditions, humans would not have a better understanding of its species, and in order to evolve, they must understand the facts before it. The tradition of yagya might be old, but they are essential to human beings as long as it causes positive effects to everyone.
